The SpeakSoftly project began Alpha testing today with a number of rural landholders from the Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment of Northern New South Wales, Australia.

The SpeakSoftly project aims to empower rural communities through consensus building. To this end, the project provides resources for training in negotiation skills, from online video lectures to simulations.

The project is a collaborative effort between Wisdom Ecology and the University of New England, Armidale, cosponsored by the Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment Management Authority and the University of New England.

The SpeakSoftly project is open to the public, who are invited to participate in the testing process at www.speaksoftly.info

A multiplayer natural resource simulation game, "Shire" is currently under development, and will soon form part of the training process. In this simulation, players represent different, sometimes conflicting, interest groups, interacting within a fluctuating, responsive, limited-resource environment.
